CAIRO – 29 April 2017: President Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian government in parts of the West Bank, arrived at the Cairo International Airport, Saturday, in a quick visit to Egypt to meet President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, local news outlets reported.

This brief visit aims at discussing a number of urgent and important situations in the Arab region, and in Palestine in particular.

The meeting comes within continuous talks and coordination between Egypt and Palestine about various Arab and international issues. It is also meant to stress Egypt’s stand on the Palestinian case, which have been long deemed on top of Egypt’s political priorities.

Abbas and Sisi, will coordinate positions regarding the peace process ahead of Abbas’ first meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington next week.

On May 3, President Abbas will conduct a set of high-level meetings with Trump and a number of senior US administration officials, seeking solutions for the revival of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Palestine has lately improved ties with Egypt after a long period of tension, considering Hamas’ ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Donald Trump reunited with his Egyptian counterpart on April 3 for talks, ranging from collaboration against IS to bolstering Egypt's flailing economy.
