CAIRO – 21 February 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday expressed his appreciation of Azerbaijan’s supportive stances towards Egypt, saying that Cairo is keen to boost relations with Baku.

Also, he hailed existing cooperation between Egypt and Azerbaijan in different issues and multilateral organizations.

Shoukry made the remarks during a meeting with Azeri Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev, who is currently on a two-day visit to Cairo, where he leads his country's delegation in the meetings of the joint committee between the two countries.

Egypt pays great attention to convening the joint committee meetings in Cairo on February 21-22, with an eye to fostering bilateral cooperation in a number of areas of common concern, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid quoted Shoukry as saying.

Moreover, Shoukry briefed Mustafayev on available investment opportunities in underway mega projects, especially in light of the Egyptian government’s plans to develop infrastructure and support various economic sectors, notably the oil and natural gas, Abu Zeid said.

Egypt looks forward to cementing cooperation with Azerbaijan and pumping further Azeri investments into the domains of major national projects, natural gas and the Suez Canal Development Corridor, the spokesman cited Shoukry as saying.

For his part, Mustafayev commended political rapprochement between the two countries and joint cultural commonalities, citing the Azeri president’s directives to bolster cooperation with Egypt, the spokesman added.

The Azeri minister posted Shoukry on mega economic projects carried out by his country, especially in the fields of infrastructure, gas export, oil and railways.

The two ministers touched on means of reinforcing bilateral relations in various domains, including increasing the number of tourist groups, Abu Zeid noted.
