CAIRO – 9 February 2018: On Saturday, the Supreme Administrative Court studied the appeal presented by Wael Labib, chairman of the “All Egyptians” organization against the National Election Authority (NEA) over the NEA’s decision to exclude of the organization from monitoring the presidential election.

In his appeal, Labib argued that his organization met all the conditions and set by the NEA, but was surprised by the issuance of the decision to exclude the said organization from monitoring the March voting, mentioning that this not his organization’s “first rodeo” and that it has observed several votes in the past.

The NEA received requests from 48 organizations - four of which are international - seeking to observe the upcoming Egyptian Presidential elections, according to NEA Spokesperson Mahmoud Helmy.

Helmy said in a press statement issued on Saturday that the NEA has checked the papers of 21 organizations, the assessed NGOs met the conditions set by the NEA and the rest of the requests will now be studied.

The NEA previously announced the instructions civil societies should follow in order to observe the Egyptian Presidential elections, opening the door for requests on January 9.

The NEA has already officially announced the official candidates for the presidential election, which include the incumbent President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and al-Ghad’s Moussa Moustafa.

According to the election timetable set by the NEA, voting in the 2018 presidential election will commence on March 26.

Sixty million eligible voters will cast their ballots in the election between March 26 and 28 in Egypt, while Egyptians living abroad will vote between March 16 and 18.
