2017 in numbers: What border guards have intercepted this year

CAIRO – 22 December 2017: Throughout the year, border guards managed to destroy 63 tunnels along the border area of Rafah in northern Sinai and dealt with 1,192 smuggling cases.

This came as part of the border guards’ extended operations to stem the menace of smuggling carried out along the entry border points in northern Sinai and to put an end to contrabands being repeatedly trafficked into the country.

In terms of illegal immigration, coastal border guards thwarted 239 cases of illegal immigration and around 6,063 individuals were intercepted.

Weapons:

1. 36 weapons
2. 2,265 automatic rifles, snipers, kettles, RPGs, and machine guns

4. 4 Dana RPGs
5. 25 sea bottom bombs
6. 335 packs of shots used in air guns

Drugs, narcotics, and other substances:

Drugs worth over a million pounds were intercepted in 2017, those included:
1. 183,350 kilograms of heroin
2. 54,510 kilograms of material Opium
3. 1,235 kilograms of narcotic seeds
4. 250 grams of Cocaine
5. 23,500 pills of voodoo
6. 225 kilograms of seeds
7. 1,540 anesthetic ampoules
8. 51, 043,982 narcotics of various other types
9. 256 acres-wide opium poppy field was discovered and destroyed, along with weed plants that were cultivated on a banana field
10. 71,877 cigarette packs
11. 27,073 tobacco bottles
12. 153,832 dope pills
