CAIRO – 28 November 2017: On the occasion of Prophet Mohamed’s birth, Egypt's Dar al-Ifta launched an online international campaign on Tuesday targeting 30 million people around the world, including Muslims and non-Muslims.

The campaign titled, "Timeless Guidance", attempts to revive and bring to focus the Prophet's teachings to offer Muslims a new understanding of the Prophet's life and introduce non-Muslims not just to his story, but to the spiritual and ethical beauties of Islam.

In a news statement, the Senior Advisor to Egypt's Grand Mufti, Ibrahim Negm, stated that various videos, articles, fatwas and other useful content will be published regularly on Egypt's Dar al-Ifta accounts on Facebook and Twitter to address the campaign's theme in a contemporary perspective.

"The entire world is in a dire need of reviving the good morals of the Prophet in a contemporary perspective that recalls love, peace and mercy to face the waves of violence, hatred and extremism," Negm said.

Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawki Allam warned against the danger of extremist groups exploiting social media campaigns to spread their ideologies among youth.

The Grand Mufti stated that these campaigns target youth in social media, referring to the statistics that indicate that 64 percent of social media users are less than 30 years old.

He continued to say that Dar Al-Ifta’s Fatwa Monitoring Observatory monitor these social media sites to follow their posts and events.

He added that the country has full control on these sites in light of its war against extremists and terrorist groups and went to call youth to think carefully and use their minds deeply before embracing any ideology.

He also stressed on the need to confront these ideas of extremists by drowning social media with true and authentic religious information and ideas, mentioning the official page of Dar Al-Ifta as a real example.

He stated that Dar Al-Ifta’s official page on Facebook, which has 6 million followers, launches a daily live broadcast on the Facebook page for an hour, from Sunday to Thursday.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi addressed the topic of changing the religious discourse in several occasions as he warned against the spread of terrorism through the rise of extremist ideologies.

Accordingly, the fatwa observatory, which is a part of Dar Al-Ifta, a religious institution for fatwas (religious verdicts) in Egypt, was established with the aim of improving the image of Islam and modifying religious discourse through addressing the phenomenon of “takfiri fatwas” (unrecognized fatwas often issued by extremist groups) and monitoring local and international media outlets.
