CAIRO – 22 October 2017: The Palestinian National Coalition in Gaza organized on Saturday a collective stand in solidarity with Egypt in its fight against terrorism. The stand was organized in the middle of Gaza city at the square of the Unknown Soldier.

A number of dignitaries from Gaza, along with coalition members, participated in the stand and expressed their endless support to the Egyptian leadership and army.

The coalition condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Egypt’s Western Desert that led to killing at least 17 policemen on Saturday; describing the attack as a crime that aims to spread terror, fear and chaos in Egypt and serving a suspicious agenda.

The coalition also expressed its deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the Egyptian policemen and to the government; wishing a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

Mohamed Mekdad, the secretary-general of the Palestinian National Coalition in Gaza, stressed the historical interdependence between Palestinians and Egyptians. Mekdad explained that Egypt is the protector of Arab nationalism and that Palestinians never forgot Egyptian soldiers’ decades-long stance for Palestine.

Moreover, the deputy secretary-general of the coalition, Mohamed Madi, confirmed the need to fight terrorism with all means to protect Egypt’s security and the Egyptian people. Madi called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in combating terrorism in Egypt.

He added that terrorism has no religion and respects no religion, explaining that such cowardly acts would never affect the Egyptian army’s determination and pride.

On Saturday evening, the Ministry of Interior reported the death of 15 militants involved in the attack and announced they were searching the area for fleeing militants. The ministry urged media outlets to validate information before sharing it with the public to avoid unwanted repercussions.
