CAIRO- 12 September 2017: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the regional situation regarding the political and security developments has opened the door for regional interventions which aim at dispersing the people and paves the way for terrorist organizations which are trying to change the region’s tolerant culture.

Shoukry added in his sppech, during the 148th session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, that Egypt is determined to contribute effectively in resolving ongoing crises in the region.

Moreover, he stressed that Egypt will continue its efforts in countering terrorism and boosting the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.

The Arab foreign ministers held a closed consultative meeting at the Arab League headquarters on Tuesday in Cairo with the participation of the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit.

The meeting discussed the items raised by the permanent representatives of the League; especially with regard to the development of the Arab League and the new items proposed by some Arab countries regarding the appointment of a new Deputy Secretary-General of the League.

They also discussed the latest developments in the region and Arab action on the international arena to counter Israel's attempts to obtain Membership of the UN Security Council, in addition to the adoption of a plan to address the Israeli infiltration on the African continent with a view to obtain the votes of the African continent in the United Nations.

Egypt has brokered two ceasefire agreements between Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces and armed opposition fighters in certain areas in northern Syria.

On July 23, the first ceasefire was announced in the eastern Ghouta region in Damascus, while the second de-escalation deal was announced in an area in the northern Homs countryside on August 3.
