CAIRO – 31 August 2017: An Emirati news portal revealed Thursday classified cables saying that Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad has called for a political solution to the Iranian nuclear program to prevent the scourge of war with Israel.

Al-Ain News Portal said that the cables were written by American diplomats including members of the U.S. Congress during their meeting with Tamim in Doha in 2007. The then-crown prince Tamim warned that not reaching a resolution to the dispute around the Iranian nuclear program would lead to a war that would harm Israel.

“We are completely different with Iran regarding development of nuclear weapons, but we share a major natural gas field with Iran, so bilateral relations should be normal,” the UAE website reported as quoting Tamim.

The website reported that Tamim pointed that peace with Israel is the only solution and that people of the region are starting to understand that the progress in the peace process requires relations with Israel. This, he said, is what Qatar has done and that other countries should follow suit. Whether or not they agree with Israel, the whole region should negotiate with the country, he added.

These cables came in a good state of relations between Qatar with Iran, especially after several countries, including Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE severed diplomatic ties with Qatar over backing and funding terrorist groups.
