CAIRO- 18 August 2017: The Qatari Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassem Al-Thani appears on the scene lately as a mediator to Saudi Arabia in order to open the Salwa border for Qatari pilgrims.

Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz welcomed at his residence in Tangier, Morocco, on Thursday the grandson of former ruler of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassem Al-Thani.

Following the meeting with King Salman, the Saudi Al-Arabiya channel described Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani as a senior member in Al Thani family. Saudi politicians and businessmen expressed their welcome to Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali mediation.

The Saudi channel added that the "the family of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Ali Al Thani and his grandfathers have been well known for their good governance and administration of the country, and good diplomatic relations with neighboring countries in the last century."

Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali is the second son of the late Emir Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani, the grandson of the Emir of Qatar, Abdullah bin Jassim Al-Thani, and the brother of Sheikh Ahmed bin Ali Al-Thani, who was overthrown by his cousin Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al-Thani, grandfather of Prince Tamim bin Hamad on February 22, 1972.

During the meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Ali, King Salman stressed the kingdom’s keenness to provide required services for pilgrims and facilitate the performance of the hajj rituals.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation for the opening of the Salwa border crossing for the entry of Qatari pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's territories without needing electronic permits.

Saudi Media Studies Center Head and Royal Advisor Saud Al-Qahtani stated that Arab kings respect Sheikh Abdullah and described him as a noble man.




Saudi twitter users launched a hashtag “Glory to Abdullah bin Ali” in which they welcome and hail Sheikh Abdullah. They also expressed their support to Sheikh Abdullah to be appointed the next prince of Qatar.

Director of Arreyadi newspaperabdulazizAlmriseul said in a tweet, “history will recall that amid the Qatari crisis, there was a wise man named Sheikh Abdullahbin Ali”




Saudi national stated his wishes that Sheikh Abdullahbin Ali will be the next ruler of Qatar, and he will end all problems with Arabs.




Editor-in-Chief of Rai Alyoum newspaper Abdul Bari Atwan said that Saudi Arabia presents Abdullah bin Ali Al Thani as a Prince of Qatar.
