How Qatar falsified history of Kuwait’s liberation?

CAIRO – 22 July 2017: Over the past week, social media has reacted angrily to statements broadcasted on Al-Jazeera news channel, misrepresenting the history of Kuwait’s liberation in 1991.

“Not Fahd, This will not be overlooked,” a hashtag launched by Saudi Twitter users after Abdullah al-Azba, Editor-in-Chief of Qatar's Al-Arab newspaper, made false claims to Al Jazeera concerning the historical role of Saudi Arabia and its former King Fahd bin Sultan Al-Saud in the liberation of the State of Kuwait.

The Qatari figure tried to create tension between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia by falsifying history and erasing the role of Saudi King Fahd in the liberation of Kuwait.





Following his statements, a state of anger engrossed Saudi twitter accounts and their hashtag “Not Fahd, this will not be overlooked,” occupied the list of the most retweets.

In a series of tweets, Saud al-Qahtani, Advisor of the Saudi Royal court and the General Supervisor of the Center for Studies and Information Affairs commented on Qatar’s lies; the tweets discussed the vital role of late Saudi King Fahd in the liberation of Kuwait.

Al-Qahtani stated in a tweet “Qatari mercenaries and dwarfs distort the history of the liberation of Kuwait. Saudi Arabia's historical position led by King Fahd is still in mind and many eyewitnesses were present.”

He added, “Qatar insisted in the past to host the GCC summit to discuss the invasion of Kuwait and the Arab leaders agreed not to spoil the conference after Amir Hamad threatened to boycott."

The Saudi advisor also revealed, in a series of tweets, what happened behind the scenes of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990 during Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit.

“To the dwarfs in Qatar, this is the history of Saudi Arabia. It will not be forged. The records of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council documented this shameful incident in the history. #Qatar_Scandel_in_ Kuwait_ Invasion,” he added.

Some other Saudi figures and nationals participated in the campaign defending the late King Fahd’s role in Kuwait.

One Saudi national tweeted, “An Ignorant Person Called Abdullah Alathbah Denies the Role of King Fahad in Saving Kuwait from Iraq Invasion.”

In early June 2017, several countries, including Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, severed diplomatic ties with Doha over accusations of Qatar backing and funding terrorist groups.

The countries closed airspace and maritime ports to Doha transportation.
