CAIRO - 28 March 2017: All items stolen from the dome of Imam Shafi’I Mosque have been recovered, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Amin said in a Tuesday statement.

Minister of State for Antiquities Khaled El-Enany thanked the Tourism and Antiquities Police for their efforts to protect Egyptian cultural heritage and archeology, as well as continuous cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Antiquities not only in the restoration of stolen antiquities but also to preserve archaeological installations.

This is the second time this month the police succeed in retrieving stolen artifacts. Three weeks ago, they arrested thieves who stole different pieces from the Rifai mosque in the Citadel.

The recovered antiquities were a wooden door and a collection of small wooden architectural decorations.
