ADEN - 28 June 2017:Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr declared on Wednesday a state of emergency in the governorates of Abyan, Aden, Lahij, Dhale and South Shabwah in order to contain a cholera outbreak.

Bin Daghr directed local authorities in those governorates to remain on high alert in order to control cases of infection and prevent the spread of the disease to other neighborhoods.

The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that the epidemic shows tentative signs of slowing as fatality rates drop by half.

However, this doesn't mean the end of the epidemic which resulted in 1,400 deaths and 219,000 suspected cases since April 27.
