CAIRO – 27 June 2017: Edwin Samuel, Britain’s spokesman for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), on Monday expressed his hope that Gulf countries would regain their unity after a move to isolate Qatar over accusations of supporting terrorism.
في ثاني أيام العيد أتمنى أن تعود دول الخليج الشقيقة موحدة عبر الحوار وأن تتعاطى #قطر بجدية مع قلق جيرانها في ما يتعلق بمكافحة #الإرهاب
“On the second day of Eid al-Fitr, I hope Gulf countries return united through dialogue and that Qatar would deal seriously with its neighbors concerns on combating terrorism,” Samuel tweeted in Arabic.
On June 5, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Libya and the Maldives announced they were severing ties with Qatar. Jordan also announced it was downgrading their diplomatic representation with Qatar.
The move came at the end of a few weeks of tensions between Qatar and some member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
