RIYADH - 21 June 2017: Saudis launched a hashtag entitled "claim allegiance to Mohamed bin Salman as new Crown Prince".
In a short while, the hashtag topped Twitter trends list.
Saudi twitted pledging loyalty to the new crown prince, hailing his wisdom and achievements.
Earlier Wednesday, King Salman bin Abdel Aziz called for claiming allegiance to Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdel Aziz after Tarawih night prayers at Safa Palace in Mecca, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.
The monarch issued a royal decree relieving crown prince Mohamed bin Nayef from the posts of crown prince, deputy prime minister and minister of interior.
According to the decree, Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdel Aziz has been named as the kingdom's crown prince and the deputy prime minister with keeping the post of the defense minister.
Bin Salman, 31, was picked by the majority of 31 of the royal family's key members out of 34.
