CAIRO - 27 March 2020: Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawi said the number of buildings that have been sterilized nationwide is 54,948 as part of the State’s efforts to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a statement released Friday, Shaarwai added that 4,257 shops have violated the prime minister’s closure decision.

The State has taken several decisions to combat the COVID-19, including a ban on the movement of citizens from 7 pm till 6 am, the closure of restaurants, cafes, sporting clubs, youth centers, and educational centers, in addition to suspending classes at all schools, universities, and kindergartens.

The minister noted that local authorities seized hookahs at 4,748 cafes and shut down 4,045 educational centers that violated the premier’s decision.

He added that a total of 1,449 local markets have been canceled to ban gatherings of people.
