NCW presents Egypt's women empowerment 2030 in Geneva

CAIRO - 20 June 2017: National Council for Women (NCW) Chairwoman Maya Morsi headed Tuesday the 35th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva.

Senior representatives of member states and civil society organizations attended the session. NCW chairperson's participation came after cooperation with Egyptian Mission to the UN, headed by Ambassador Amr Ramadan.

NCW said in a statement, Morsi presented the strategy for empowerment of Egyptian women 2030, which is considered the first strategy for empowerment of women on international level, taking into account goals of sustainable development 2030.

Morsi pointed to methodology adopted in formulating the strategy and all six axes of the strategy, in addition to indicators of each axis, during the session, the statement added.

She explained that President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi announced 2017 as the year of Egyptian women, in light of current political leadership acknowledgement of women’s role, efforts and status in the Egyptian society.

The president issued a decree informing government and all state institutions, as well as NCW that the empowerment of women 2030 strategy is working strategy for coming years, stressing importance of carrying out plans, programs and projects included in this strategy.
