CAIRO – 2 March 2020: Egypt's Ambassador in Kuwait Tarek al-Kouni denied on Monday that any of the Egyptian expats in Kuwait tested positive for the emerging coronavirus.

Kouni added that no cases of infection with the virus have been detected so far among the Egyptians in Kuwait or Egyptians who have entered the country over the last period, according to the authorities' announcements.

Kouni confirmed the close communication with Kuwaiti officials in this matter, especially regarding the procedures related to issuing visas for Egyptians.

On February 28, the Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait called on its nationals to be vigilant and avoid crowded places in the Gulf state where the number of infected cases with the deadly coronavirus is increasing.

The embassy also asked the community to follow the necessary health and preventive guidelines amid the increasing number of coronavirus cases across the region.

Earlier, Kuwait's consulate in Egypt denied a rumor propagated by a media report that claimed Kuwait has suspended visa issuance to Egyptians due to fears of coronavirus spread.

A diplomat at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Cairo told Youm7 that the Kuwaiti consulate regularly issues visas to Egyptians.

Al-Qabas newspaper claimed that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior suspended the visas of the Egyptian community in Kuwait until further notice due to coronavirus outbreak.

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced that the number of coronavirus cases in the Gulf state reached 46 cases on Sunday.
