CAIRO – 23 January 2020: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi laid a wreath on Thursday at the Memorial of Police Martyrs in the headquarters of the Police Academy, to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the Egyptian Police Day.

Minister of Interior Mohamed Tawfik accompanied Sisi, as the celebration is set to start shortly. Sisi also met with members of the Supreme Council of the Police.

The reason January 25 is Police Day in Egypt dates back to 1952 when 50 policemen were killed and 80 were wounded in Ismailia by the British colonization. The massacre was the spark of the revolution that ended the monarchy in Egypt on July 23 of the same year.
