ADDIS ABABA, Jan 21 (MENA) - The 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) kicked off Tuesday under the chairmanship of Egypt.

While addressing the inaugural session, Egypt's permanent representative to the AU Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek highlighted achievements realized by the committee under Egypt's presidency of the AU throughout the past year.

Launching the African Continental Free Trade Area, operating the Reconstruction and Development Center as well as following up the road map of the AU institutional reform are among key achievements realized by the pan-African body under Egypt's chairmanship, ambassador Khaled said.

The past year's busy schedule included over 50 official meetings, 200 working hours along with a series of high-level and preparatory meetings, the ambassador noted.

AU Commission Deputy Chairperson Ambassador Kwesi Quartey, who attended the opening of the session, hailed Egypt's presidency of the African Union and achievements attained under its leadership.

Throughout this week, PRC will be preparing for the 36th session of the AU executive ministerial council, due to take place on February 6-7, to be followed by the 33rd AU Summit on February 9-10.
