CAIRO – 11 October 2019: Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received a phone call from the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday, as he thanked him for sending his congratulations over receiving the Nobel Peace Award this year.

According to Presidency spokes person Bassam Rady, Sisi and Abiy Ahmed discussed the multisided Ethiopian-Egyptian relations, as they affirmed that both of them are willing to overcome any kind of obstacles regarding the Grand Ethiopian Dam (GERD) negotiations.

Earlier on Friday Abiy Ahmed was announced 2019 Nobel Peace laureate for achieving peace and solving the problem of Ethiopian-Eritrean border, which had been closed for 20 years, stated the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

“The prize is also meant to recognise all the stakeholders working for peace and reconciliation in Ethiopia and in the East and Northeast African regions,” the committee said.

President Sisi congratulated Abiy Ahmed for receiving the Nobel Peace Award.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to the Ethiopian Prime Minister and to the neighborly Ethiopian people for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Abiy Ahmed, the Ethiopian Prime Minister,” said President Sisi on his official Twitter account.

“It is a new victory to our black continent, which is always ambitious for peace and seeking stability and development. I hope to continue all constructive efforts that aimed at putting an end to all conflicts and disagreements in the African continent,” he added.
