CAIRO – 13 June 2017: Egypt condemned “in the strongest terms” the terrorist attack in Al-Qatif governorate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an official statement by the Foreign Ministry said Monday. One police officer was killed and two security men injured after a patrol car was targeted.

Egypt wished the wounded soldiers a quick recovery,and offered condolences to the victims’ families, the government and all Saudi nationals.

Assuring Egypt’s support of measures taken by the kingdom to thwart the plans of terrorist organizations and secure the safety of its citizens, the statement read, “Egypt stands in solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and its people against terrorism and extremism, which threaten its security and stability.”

A Saudi officer was killed and two soldiers injured in Qatif late Sunday night, following the explosion of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) thrown at the patrol car, according to a spokesman of the Saudi Interior Ministry. Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the assailants.
