CAIRO, Aug 13 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday approved law no. 147 of 2019 to amend some provisions of the law on lawyers.

The amended law stipulates that the board of the Bar Association should create special lists registering foreign lawyers it accredited to be able to work inside the Egyptian territories and lawyers who are working abroad, in addition to setting the registration fees and annual subscriptions.

According to the new legislation, an academy of law and legal studies will be established. This facility will be affiliated with the Bar Association and will have a legal personality.

It will be tasked with developing studies related to the legal profession, training of lawyers and upgrading their skills, in addition to granting them professional certificates.

Under the amended legislation, those seeking to join the Bar Association for the first time must pass a period of study at the academy which is expected to open as of January 2021.

The law was published in the gazette on Tuesday.
