CAIRO, July 10 (MENA) - The Arab Parliament on Wednesday urged Sudanese armed movements to join the political process and hand down weapons.

President of the Arab Parliament Meshaal Al Salami, now visiting Sudan, called for adopting the method of dialogue to settle the current crisis in Sudan, according to a statement issued by his Cairo office.

Sudan is having big challenges and difficulties including economic sanctions, he said, adding that the Parliament is working with the Sudanese parties to lift these sanctions, according to the statement.

He added that the delegation accompanying him during his visit is representing Arab parliaments to express solidarity with the Sudanese people and leadership, the statement indicated.

Salami said that the delegation held talks with Sudanese officials including the head of the military council and his deputy along with the foreign ministry undersecretary. They also held meetings with representatives of the change and freedom powers and political parties.

He added that the Arab Summit has urged the Parliament to implement a plan for lifting Sudan from the US list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

Salami noted he will send messages to the US president and his secretary of state along with the speakers of the US House and Senate asking for lifting Sudan from the terrorism list.
