The Memorial, known as Victory Monument, was built in 1954 in honor of the soldiers of the Soviet Army and partisans of Belarus who were killed in the Second World War.

Sisi was welcomed by Minsk Mayor Anatoly Sivak.

The anthems of both Egypt and Belarus were played at the Victory Square where the memorial stands.

An eternal flame was lit under the huge 40m obelisk that honors the country's war dead.
