Egypt officially organizes the longest Iftar table with a length of 3198.83 meters to host around 7,000 people, June 1, 2019 – Egypt Today

CAIRO – 4 June 2019: Khalid al-Husseini, spokesman for Egypt's New Administrative Capital, said that the city received a Guinness World Records title for organizing the longest table for Ramadan's Iftar on Saturday.

Iftar is the meal Muslims eat especially in the holy month of Ramadan to break their fast at sunset.

Egypt officially organized the longest Iftar table with a length of 3198.83 meters. The table reportedly hosted around 7,000 people.

In June 2018, Ajman Municipality and Planning Department in UAE's Ajman organized the longest table, with a length of 2,983.64 meters according to reports. The table hosted 6,000 people of the public. NAC's Iftar this year breaks the record by over 200 meters.



President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has laid the first stone of the New Administrative Capital in East Cairo on July, 14, 2018. With an area of 170,000 feddans, the new capital is set to include 20 residential areas expected to accommodate 6.5 million people and a road network of 650 km in length. The capital will include an international airport and an electric train to link it with the 10th of Ramadan and El-Salam cities.

It is also set to feature 1,250 mosques and churches, a 5,000-seat conference center, nearly 2,000 schools and colleges, over 600 medical facilities, and a park that is projected to be the world’s largest.

Longest table, widest bridge

This comes as Egypt received on May 15 a Guinness World Records' certificate forRod al-Farag Axis Bridge (TahyaMisr Bridge) passing over the Nile, the widest suspendedbridge in the world witha width of 67.36 meters.


Regional Director for the Guinness World Records in the Middle East and North Africa region Talal Omar handed over the certificate to Mohamed Mohsen Salah, president and CEO of the Arab Contractors company.

Rod El-Farag Axis (TahyaMisr Bridge) links areas in northern and eastern Cairo with west Cairo. The Egyptian government said that the bridge, which aims to ease traffic and reduce commuting time, is the widest over a waterway.

Ahmed Makled, chief executive manager of B Premium, the official partner of Guinness Records in Egypt, said that the relevant minimum limit set by Guinness was 65.235 meters.
