Sudan shuts down Al Jazeera’s office in Khartoum

CAIRO – 31 May 2019: Sudanese authorities shut down Al Jazeera channel bureau in Khartoum and withdrew its work license on Thursday evening, reported Sudan Tribune.

The Sudanese security forces informed the director of al Jazeera bureau in Khartoum that the transitional ruling military council decided to shut down the office and confiscate all its equipment, the channel said on its official Twitter account on Thursday.

Sudan is the fourth country bans Qatar-owned Al Jazeera’s coverage due to its “unfair and biased coverage”; in 2014 Egypt has shut down the channel office (Mubashr Masr) in Cairo, accusing it of publishing false news that incite violence against the state. In June 2017, immediately following Arab countries severed their ties with Qatar, Saudi Arabia closed the channel office and withdrew its work permit. In August, 2017, Israeli government announced its ban on Al Jazeera journalists from operating in Israel.
