CAIRO - 13 May 2019: The Diocese of Great Martyr George in Shubra Al Khaimah announced on Monday that the killing of Priest Makar Saad is criminal act and an investigation has been launched.

Priest Makar Saad of St. Mark’s Church in Shubra was shot dead by a 45-year-old worker called Kamal Shawky, who fired three bullets at the priest in his room.

The victim had promised to provide financial assistance for the worker who needed money to fund his daughters’ marriages but did not fulfill his promise. As the defendant was reproaching the priest, a fight occurred and he gunned the priest down.

The Church offered its condolences for the Priest, saying the funeral will be held when the investigation ends.

The church will not be responsible for any statement or comments could be circulated on social media, adding that all statements concerning the incident will be published on its official website
