CAIRO - 5 May 2019: The sustainable development plan for 2019/2020, submitted by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Ali Abdel Aal, tackles the most significant axes of urban development and improving environment.

The plan mainly aims to spread urbanization and reduce population density in the delta and the narrow strip of the Nile Valley, decrease development gaps between different governorates, and preserve natural resources, ecological systems and cultural heritage to prevent environmental degradation.

The objectives of the government in the field of urban development and environmental improvement are the following:

1 - Increasing the area of the Egyptian globe to increase the proportion of populated area from 7 percent to 10 percent in 2019/2020.

2. Allocating at least one third of the public investments for urban development of the governorates of Upper Egypt and the border provinces.

3- Expanding the construction of cities and new urban communities to accommodate approximately 10 million people.

4. Continuing energy use rationalization and environmental development efforts, addressing pollutants and reducing carbon dioxide emissions to global levels.

5. Expanding the use of clean technology and waste recycling projects in all governorates within the framework of the concept of green economy and environment friendly projects.
