CAIRO, March 31 (MENA) - Head of the Arab Council for Water Mahmoud Abu Zeid underlined on Sunday the importance of exerting more efforts to rationalize water consumption.

Addressing the Land and Water Days conference organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Abu Zeid called for achieving sustainable development, saying it is linked to food security.

He underlined the importance of rationalizing the consumption of water and the good management of water resources, saying the less we have conflicts the more we achieve food security.

Increasing water productivity, rationalizing consumption of water and boosting green economy among the solutions to address water challenges, he added.

FAO organizes Land and Water Days in coordination with the International Fund for Agricultural Development and the World Food Program.

Land and Water Days are opportunities for exchanging innovative approaches and lessons learned on sustainable land, soil and water management among practitioners, country representatives and other stakeholders and for promoting the uptake of best practices.
