CAIRO - 27 March 2019: Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Omar Marwan stated on Wednesday that the number of beneficiaries in Takaful and Karama (solidarity and dignity) monetary subsidy program will increase by 100,000 cases in FY2019/2020.

The inclusion of those citizens will start on July 1 along with the beneficiaries of the pension offered by the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The monthly pension of those will be raised to LE200 from LE100.

The value of the monetary subsidies granted through Takaful and Karama program hit LE1 billion in February. The number of beneficiaries of the program reached 2.25 million families last year. Of those, there are 5 million children with no school dropouts. However, the cases enrolled in the program will be reviewed to ensure their eligibility and discard the non-deserving ones.

In case the family does not abide by the rules ensuring that children receive proper education and healthcare, their subsidiary will be reduced by 30 percent. Seventy one percent of the program’s beneficiaries are living in Upper Egypt. Illiteracy rate among female beneficiaries surpasses 50 percent.
