CAIRO –5 March 2019: Deputy Chairperson of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for Commercial and Real Estate Affairs Tarek al-Sebai warned individuals and entities against encroaching on lands allocated to the "New Waraq City" project.

The new city will be built on Waraq Island located on the Nile River within Giza governorate upon Cabinet's decree no. 20/2018.

The official stressed that the authority is the only entity in charge of any deals that concern the land, and that any deals closed with any other party are obsolete. He added that the authority has the right to take legal action in case any breaches or manipulation occur.

The Waraq Island houses slums and encroachments that the state aims to remove and provide alternative units for residents.

Three years ago President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi launched a campaign to remove encroachments on state-owned lands while providing alternatives for low-income slum residents in new housing projects.
