CAIRO - 3 March 2019: A passenger was arrested on Sunday in Cairo International Airport amid an attempt to smuggle LE1.16 million which were wrapped in cotton towels as he was heading to a Gulf country.

As indicated on the website of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), passengers are allowed to carry up to LE5,000, or $10,000 or the equivalent in freely convertible currency.

The latest smuggling attempt foiled by Cairo International Airport authorities occured in February. A German woman and a Turkish man tried to get 11 kilograms of cocaine into the country. They are held for investigation according to Ahram Online.
