CAIRO – 27 February 2019: Minister of Health Hala Zayed officially announced Wednesday that the number of victims of the Ramsis Train Station reached 20 dead and 40 injured.

Surveillance footage from the station shows that the accident took place at 9:26 am on ‎platform no. 6 when a train collided with a buffer stop and immediately exploded. ‎

Immediately, at least 30 ambulances were transferred to the scene to transfer the injured to the nearest hospitals while fire fighters managed to control the blaze.

The ministry's statement pointed out that the level of injuries vary between slight to medium with a number of critical cases with bone fractures and skin burns.

The ministry further stressed that all the injured are receiving the necessary treatment.

The Cabinet also announced LE80 thousand for each family of the victims who were killed in the fire, and LE25 thousand for each of the injured.

Minister of Transport Hisham Barakat visited the scene and announced that a technical committee had been set up to determine the cause of the incident.



Moreover, General Prosecutor Nabil Sadek ordered an urgent and expanded investigation into the reasons behind the incident.
