CAIRO – 25 February 2019: Egypt’s Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram congratulated Rami Malek for winning Oscar for Best Actor on Sunday night for playing the legendary Freddie Mercury in "Bohemian Rhapsody" movie.

In a Monday statement, Makram praised Rami’s speech during receiving the academy award.

Also, Egypt’s embassy in Washington expressed its happiness with Rami’s winning saying that Malek has made all Egyptians so proud.

“Rami Malek has made Egyptians happy and proud tonight as the first Egyptian American to win an academy award. Congrats, Rami. Egyptians are proud of you!” The embassy stated in its tweet.




“I am the son of immigrants from Egypt, a first-generation American... and part of my story is being written right now. I could not be more grateful to each and every one of you, and everyone who believed in me for this moment. It’s something I will treasure for the rest of my life.” – Malek said in his Oscar accepting speech.

Malek has won all the awards preceding the 91st Academy Awards: The Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and SAG. Malik is an Egyptian-American actor, who was born in Los Angeles in May 12, 1981, to Egyptian immigrant parents, Saeed Malek and Nelly Abdel Malek.
