CAIRO, Feb 13 (MENA) - The total number of broadband internet subscribers in Egypt shot up to 5.64 million in April 2018 against 4.57 million in the corresponding period in 2017, at a 23.41 percent uptick.

In a statement on Wednesday on the Safer Internet Day, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said the number of subscribers in mobile phone internet services plunged 7.56 percent, standing at 30.68 million in April 2018 against 33.19 million in the same period in 2017.

The drop is attributed to a rise in the cost of mobile phone internet services.

USB Modem subscribers hit 3.45 million in April 2018 against 3.29 million in the same period in 2017.

This year's Safer Internet Day (SID) celebration took place on Tuesday, 5 February 2019. The campaign's slogan, "Together for a better internet", was a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone, and especially for younger users.
