CAIRO – 29 January 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev on Tuesday, Jan. 29 to promote military cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement by presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady.
The statement reported that the meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and Head of General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel.
Sisi asked Patrushev to convey his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the statement added.
During the meeting, president Sisi praised the Egyptian-Russian relations, referring to the establishment of the nuclear plant in Dabaa and the Russian industrial zone in East Port Said.
Patrushev conveyed the greetings of Russian President Putin to President Sisi, expressing his country's appreciation of the recent developments in Egyptian-Russian relations and stressing Russia's interest in deepening these fruitful and solid relations.
He also pointed out the importance of working to consolidate efforts on the military and security fronts, especially with regard to the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The statement added that the meeting also tackled the latest developments in several regional issues, especially in Syria and Libya.
