CAIRO- 27 January 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi will meet with Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir on Sunday, according a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

Both leaders will discuss the bilateral relations and the regional issues of mutual concern. After their close meeting, they will hold a press conference, the statement added.

Sudan, which shares northern border with Egypt, has plunged into chaos since December 19 when hundreds of Sudanese citizens protested against the deteriorating economic situation, calling for the end of Bashir’s rule.

A week later, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry paid a visit to Sudan to send a message from Sisi to Bashir, according to a statement from Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 27.

On January 15, Omar al-Bashir extended his thanks to Egypt and two other neighboring countries (Ethiopia and Chad) over their support to him and his government amid the ongoing protests.
