CAIRO – 18 January 2019: An Egyptian fisherman is missing and six others were rescued by Palestinian residents and naval forces after their boat sank off Palestine’s Rafah coast on Thursday.

The six rescued men were hospitalized in Gaza and will return back home after being recovered, Palestinian sources told Egypt Today on condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to brief the media.

The missing fisherman is called Gomaa Nezar al-Ashry, from Fayoum governorate.
It is possible that boat sank as a result of unstable weather that hit Egypt since last December.

On Dec. 7, a fishing boat has sunk near the fishermen port in el Max neighborhood in Alexandria due to bad weather. The boat was drifted away after colliding with rocks according to eyewitnesses; however, no injuries or victims were reported.

Over the past week, Egyptians have been struggling with a wave of cold weather accompanied with heavy sandstorm.
