CAIRO - 31 December 2018: The Foreign Ministry is closely following up the situation of Egyptian fishermen who accidentally strayed into Iranian waters on board a fishing boat under the Saudi flag.

In a statement, Assistant Foreign Minister for the consular and immigration affairs Yasser Hashem said the detained fishermen are being brought before the competent court.

The ministry spares no effort to ensure their safety, he added.

The senior diplomat said contacts are being made with the Iranian bodies concerned to release the fishermen.
