Shoukry discusses regional issues with Saudi chief of Shoura

CAIRO – 27 December 2018: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met with Abdullah ibn Muhammad Al-Sheikh, the Saudi chief of the Consultative Assembly, during Al-Sheikh's visit to Egypt.

The meeting aimed to discuss mutual relations and regional issues.

“The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the strength of the Egyptian-Saudi relations that extended for long years of brotherhood and powerful historical ties,” Spokesman of the ministry, Ahmed Hafez, said.

The meeting reviewed a set of regional issues of mutual concern and discussed the role of diplomacy and its positive effect on enhancing the Egyptian-Saudi relations.

Hafez added, “We face radical challenges; we need to cooperate and work together to overcome all barricades and enhance stability and security in the region.”

During the meeting, Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s complete support to Saudi Arabia in all its efforts to achieve stability.

Furthermore, the meeting tackled the economic reforms implemented in the kingdom as well as the Saudi strategy to achieve much more progress and development.

In the same vein, Al-Sheikh hailed the Egyptian government’s development efforts, especially on the economic front.

“Egypt enjoys a distinguished status among the Saudi people who glorify the efforts Egypt exerts to face all problems,” Al-Sheikh stated.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received the chairman of the Shoura Council Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Sheikh and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday in Cairo.

Sisi welcomed the Saudi officials who are visiting Cairo, and conveyed his greetings to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, highlighting the strength of Egyptian-Saudi relations.
