CAIRO – 31 May 2017: The Armed Forces stopped a car loaded with explosive materials on the western side of Ahmed Hamdy Tunnel between the Sinai Peninsula and Egypt’s mainland, a statement from army spokesman Col. Tamer al-Refaey said Wednesday.

“The car was heading to Cairo, to aid terrorists in their attacks targeting security forces and citizens,” the statement read.

The car, driven by two persons, was loaded with instruments and explosive materials used in making IEDs, according Refaey’s statement.

The two people in the car and the seized materials are under investigation.
