Awqaf min. 608 mosques renovated in 2018

CAIRO - 18 December 2018: The Awqaf Ministry said that nearly 608 mosques were renovated in 2018.

In statements to MENA on Tuesday, Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa said that the year of 2018 witnessed the launch of many initiatives and programs in the various religious domains, along with activation of efforts to renew the religious discourse.

In 2018, new Quran memorization and recitation centers were opened, in addition to the training of imams and preachers to promote their crucial role in protecting youth against extremist ideology, Gomaa added.

Also, 300 million pounds were allocated towards humanitarian assistance during the current year, compared to 150 million pounds in 2017, he added.
