CAIRO - 15 December 2018: The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced a defendant to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in his retrial in the case known as the second Nasr City cell.

The court gave life sentence to six criminals, sentenced four others to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment, while two perpetrators were handed down a five-year jail term.

The group is believed to have targeted police recruits in the past. The defendants face a number of charges include: joining an outlawed group, attempted murder of police conscripts, disrupting State institutions and endangering the lives of citizens.

Since the ouster of the former Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohamed Morsi, the country has been witnessing growing waves of extremism that have washed over society and spawned numerous deadly attacks. Most recently, a terrorist attack hit Martyr Mina church in Helwan on Friday, leaving ten dead and nine injured.
