CAIRO – 8 December: President Abel Fatah al Sisi discussed Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station latest development with his Tanzanian counterpart John Magufuli during a Friday phone call.

According to statement issued by presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s participation with a high level delegation during the signing ceremony of the dam’s construction contract on December 12.

The dam will be constructed by The Arab Contractors Egyptian Company.

Stiegler's Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station expected to produce 5,920GWh of power annually to fill the electricity and energy shortage inside the country, with a total cost of $3.6 billion.

In October, Magufuli invited Sisi to lay the foundation stone of the dam Stiegler’s Gorge.
In a phone call initiated by Magufuli, Sisi said the construction of the dam will be performed in a way that will make Tanzania, Egypt and the African continent proud, exemplifying African cooperation.

The dam will be built on the Basin of Rufiji River as an important national project to generate power.

Magufuli expressed his appreciation of the historic relations between the two nations, and applauded economic cooperation and trade exchange, as well as Egyptian investments in Tanzania.

Sisi was the first Egyptian president to visit Tanzania in August 2017 since 1968
