CAIRO - 19 November 2018: Health and Population Minister Hala Zayed discussed on Monday with French Ambassador here Stéphane Romatet ways of benefiting from the French expertise in manufacturing blood plasma derivatives and drugs for treatment of cancerous tumors.

Talks were held after opening the Egyptian-French Health Forum earlier in the day.

Zayed, during the opening of the forum, said Egypt will draw on the French expertise in the application of its new comprehensive health insurance system and developing emergency and intensive care services at public hospitals.

She said the French side is willing to help Egypt develop its healthcare system.

A number of French companies operating in the health domain are taking part in the two-day forum in addition to the economic department at the French embassy, Business France agency, Al-Ahram Hebdo and the French Agency for Development.

As part of the forum, three round-table meetings will be held to discuss the new comprehensive medical insurance system in Egypt and reforms of the pharmaceutical sector.

On the sidelines of the forum, a delegation representing the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF) will arrive in Egypt on a two-day visit for talks on enhancing cooperation with Egypt in the health domain.

Head of the Syndicate of Journalists Abdel Mohsen Salama and French Ambassador in Cairo Stéphane Romatet on Monday inaugurated the Egyptian-French health forum, in the presence of the ministers of finance, investment, health and higher education.

The forum, held under the auspices of the ministries of Health and Finance, is one of the most important events in the Egyptian-French cooperation, as it provides a good opportunity to establish a strong bilateral partnership in the health field.

The two-day forum is co-organised by a group of French companies working in the Egyptian health sector – in cooperation with the French Embassy, and with the support of the French Development Agency, in partnership with Al Ahram Hebdo newspaper.

The forum aims at "building an ever stronger Franco-Egyptian partnership in the health sector... these two days will allow French companies to promote concrete solutions to support the Egyptian authorities in the reform of the health and social protection sector," a statement by organizers of the forum read.
