UNIDO, World Bank cooperate to empower youth in Upper Egypt

CAIRO – 29 May 2017: The United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) together with the World Bank and Japanese government announced the “Imkan” competition on May 28, 2017. The competition aims to encourage youth from both genders to present innovative solutions on using surrounding resources to create job opportunities and to meet local markets’ needs.

Application is open till June 2, 2017. All applicants are requested to submit an essay describing their project idea in no more than 2,500 words.

The finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony in Luxor where they will present their projects to a panel comprised of leading business leaders in Upper Egypt. All five winners will receive a financial compensation and a training opportunity in a leading industry company. One winner from the age of 20-25 will receive financial support from “Misr El Kheir” foundation to implement his/her project.

The UNIDO office in Cairo was established in 1999 in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry. It has been supporting Egypt’s progress towards the achievement of social and economic growth, through the promotion of industrial development for employment generation and environmental sustainability.

UNIDO is currently engaged with the Government of Egypt and its civil society in initiatives that relate to: agro-industry development, human security in Upper Egypt, small and medium enterprise development and job creation, energy efficiency and renewable energies, implementation of Montreal Protocol activities, promotion of green industries.
