DAMASCUS, 12 Nov 2018: More than 1,000 schools were reconstructed in Syria before the beginning of school year, including almost 250 educational facilities in Aleppo province, located in the country's northwest, the deputy head of the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides, Major General Yevgeny Kharchenko said.

"Over 1,000 schools were rebuilt in Syria before the beginning of school year. For example, 247 schools [were reconstructed] in Aleppo province, including 101 [schools] in the city [of Aleppo] itself. The [reconstruction] process is still underway," Russia Today quoted Kharchenko as saying during a meeting with local authorities and members of the public in Damascus.

Kharchenko noted that rebuilding social infrastructure was one of the key objectives of the post-war reconstruction in the country.

"During these six months alone, the Center for Reconciliation, together with funds for refugees and low-income citizens, distributed more than 600 tonnes of food, 900 tons of bread, and various humanitarian and medical kits," he added.

Russia has been assisting Syria throughout the war, providing military and humanitarian aid and brokering ceasefire agreements
