CAIRO – 9 November 2018: Egyptian minister of foreign affairs, Sameh Shoukry, received a phone call on Friday from his U.S. counterpart Pompeo, in which they discuss various aspects of Egyptian-U.S. relations in both political and economic areas, as well as a number of issues of mutual concern.

They also stressed the importance of pushing up bilateral relations and intensifying consultations over regional issues and challenges to stability in the Middle East, added the spokesman.

In July, Pompeo, lauded Egypt's efforts to achieve a Palestinian national reconciliation and addressing regional issues to promote stability, Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesperson.

Pompeo asserted his country’s keenness to strengthen its strategic relationship with Egypt and its commitment to support Egypt politically and economically through different cooperation mechanisms, including the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Egypt.

For his part, Shoukry stressed Egypt's interest to boost its relations with the United States and to continue communication, coordination and consultation on latest developments in the Middle East and ways to promote peace and stability in the region.

Pompeo invited Shoukry to visit Washington in the first week of August to continue consultations and coordination on the development of bilateral relations. The Egyptian minister said he is looking forward to visit Washington soon.
