CAIRO – 4 November 2018: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al Sisi agreed on Sunday at WYF to launch an official committee to discuss the current NGO law as a prelude to a possible law amendment by the Egyptian Parliament.

The president said that current NGO law may be amended after alternatives being studied by a special committee. The Egyptian President was having a discussion with a group of young participants in the World Youth Forum (WYF) held in Sharm El Sheikh City.

A young Egyptian participant asked the President on the sidelines of the WYF about the current NGO law. “The current NGO law requires reconsideration from your constitutional powers Mr. President”, said the young Egyptian participant.

To which Sisi replied, “I agree with you; there were fears that led to the shaping of this law in an unconstitutional way.”
