CAIRO – 2 November 2018: The Egyptian State Information Service condemned on Friday an attack targeted Egyptian Copts near the Monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in Minya governorate.

At least seven people were announced killed and seven others wounded after the bus was attacked near the monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor, according to the security source.

The SIS issued a statement on Friday stating that the attack exposes the weakness and cowardice of the terrorist militias lurking in their hideouts in Egypt, here the full statement:

“In response to the cowardly terrorist attack in Minya governorate, the State Information Service (SIS) issues this statement expressing its deepest condolences to the families of the victims, our Coptic Christian brethren and the people of Egypt as a whole.

SIS also expresses wishes for the speedy recovery of the wounded, stressing that this terrible crime will not damage the unity of the Egyptian people. Such sordid attempts by desperate forces of terrorism will not affect the people of Egypt’s determination to move forward in their path to achieve security, stability and development throughout the country, and to eradicate terrorism.

In its statement, the SIS underlines a number of points, including the following:

•The crime committed by a sinister terrorist entity is automatically added to the horrible record of these groups, as they fail to even consider the sanctity of the life of women, children, or a worshiper on his or her way to prayer.

•This crime is a desperate attempt by terrorist groups is evidence of the their weakness. Terrorist currents are almost uttering their last breaths in Egypt after the astounding success of the Comprehensive Sinai 2018 operation in securing the 4 sides of Egypt’s borders and in eradicating terrorist pockets in North and Central Sinai and elsewhere.

The latest of these successes were announced yesterday in communique (29) issued yesterday by the General Command of the Armed Forces, which documented the elimination of (18) terrorists, and the destruction of (25) vehicles used by terrorists during their to infiltrate the western border.

This comes in addition to the recent preemptive strikes by forces of the Ministry of interior against terrorists, among which was the liquidation of a terrorist cell (11 terrorists) a week ago by the Dashlout – Al Farafra road, the elimination of a terrorist cell (9 terrorists) inside a cave in Sohag governorate and aborting numerous attempted terrorist attacks. These setbacks drove terrorists to resort to desperate measures that went as low as to target innocent worshipers in the most cowardly way.”
